Bikes That Make the World Spin 'Round

In 2008, Phil Webb saw a need for local business to develop world class products with locally sourced materials. With engineering experience and a love for the Thai people, Webb decided to bring the two together through his business idea: WebbWorks bamboo bikes.

As CEO, Webb built his company with a vision. He explains, "I want to offer the people of Southeast Asia an opportunity for sustainable and ethical work. I witnessed the impact recent hardships, including poverty, religious persecution, and human trafficking had on these people. By helping individuals build a skill, they can thrive for years to come."

The bicycles are manufactured in Thailand by apprentices who learn the craft and skills as they are led by a full-time bicycle craftsman and Webb. This process allows residents to help stabilize the economy and to support themselves rather than depend on charitable funds. The bikes are then distributed through WebbWorks website and independent bike shops throughout the world. TTR Bikes and Sunshine Cycles carry the bikes in the Upstate area, while Velo Bear LLC in Greenville is the United States distribution headquarters.

Webb designed and developed several body styles for the new bamboo bike line to meet the needs of cyclists for multiple applications. These bikes are strong yet lightweight, which make them perfect for daily commutes or competitive athletic events. The bamboo is treated twice before it is handwrapped with carbon fiber.

Webb emphasized the importance of the product quality to offer an exceptional product to their customers while building up the community. "WebbWorks is passionate about developing sustainable, quality-crafted bicycle frames from eco-friendly materials. We have bikes suited for avid cyclists with high performance needs, fitness conscious individuals in urban areas, and individuals looking for a more environmentally-friendly form of transportation."

The Thai Silk is designed to handle racing or everyday road riding, while models such as the 29er are ideal for off-road experiences and tough terrain.

WebbWorks is expanding distribution from the United States and Thailand into European markets through Onn Cycle.
