Greenville Conservation Lecture Series: Saving South American Giants

    Where
The Children's Museum of the Upstate, 300 College Street, Greenviille, SC [ Map ]
    Description
Two formidable giants from another era still roam the lands of South America: the giant armadillo and the giant anteater. Come hear about them in this one hour talk. Very little was known about giant armadillos until the Giant Armadillo Conservation Program (GACP) started in 2010. The team also works with giant anteaters and is currently searching for ways to prevent them from being killed on the numerous highways that now cross their habitat. Giant anteaters are the third most common road kill in Mato Grosso do Sul and the species could become locally extinct in some areas due to vehicle collisions. Come Join Arnaud as he explains his journey and to learn more about how you can help to save these two incredible giants. For more information on anteater work see www.giantanteater.org Our guest speaker is Dr. Arnaud Desbiez, Project Coordinator for Anteaters and Highways. If possible, pre-register. www.Greenvillezoo.com/lecture.

    Description
Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is a comedy play written by Christopher Durang. The story revolves around the relationships of three middle-aged single siblings, two of whom live together, and takes place during a visit by the third, Masha, who supports them. They discuss their lives and loves, argue, and Masha threatens to sell the house. Some of the show's elements were derived from works of Anton Chekhov, including several character names, the play's setting in a cherry orchard, and the theme of the possible loss of an ancestral home. Critics praised Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike as a humorous adaptation of Chekhov themes that doesn't require familiarity with Chekhov. The original Broadway production proved to be a commercial success, recouping its $2.75 million investment in under four months. In 2013, it won the Tony Award for Best Play and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play, among other awards. Don't miss this hot new comedy!

Foothills Playhouse, 201 East 5th Street, Easley, SC [ Map ]
    Description
The scene is a fishing lodge in rural Georgia often visited by "Froggy" LeSeuer, a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base. This time "Froggy" has brought along a friend, a pathologically shy young man named Charlie who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. So "Froggy," before departing, tells all assembled that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English. Once alone the fun really begins, as Charlie overhears more than he should—the evil plans of a sinister, two-faced minister and his redneck associate; the fact that the minister's pretty fiancée is pregnant; and many other damaging revelations made with the thought that Charlie doesn't understand a word being said. That he does fuels the nonstop hilarity of the play and sets up the wildly funny climax in which things go uproariously awry for the "bad guys," and the "good guys" emerge triumphant.

    Winter Skunk Music Fest

    Where
The Spinning Jenny, 107 Cannon Street, Greer, SC [ Map ]
    Description
HISTORIC PENDLETON SPRING JUBILEE began in 1978 as a means to inaugurate tourism in Anderson, Oconee and Pickens Counties. It has become so much more – a rite of spring, award-winning event, premier festival of the upstate and a source of pride in the community.

The Spinning Jenny is in its second year bringing live music and more to downtown Greer (also known as Greer Station). It's a former skating rink with hardwood floors, pressed tin ceilings, and GREAT sound. The room can handle over 300 people, so it's a perfect spot for us to present great live music. Plenty of free parking and just one block off of Trade and Main streets. There will be food trucks, craft brews, and craft vendors.

Acts and times subject to change.

    Yarn
    Forlorn Strangers
    Cicada Rhythm
    Sawyer
    The Note Ropers
    Angela Easterling & Brandon Turner
    Vilai Harrington & The Hamptones
As much as we love having kids enjoy our fests at the SkunkFarm, we will not be able to provide entertainment and activities for the kids at WinterSkunk. We recommend only older teens attend, and ONLY if accompanied by their folks.

The Spinning Jenny has chairs, but you're welcome to bring your festival (foldable bag) chairs.

No outside food or drinks. Food trucks will be on site and adult beverages and soft drinks will be for sale inside the Spinning Jenny.
