    Description
Join an audience that loves talking back to history to discuss the inspiring words and life of poet Maya Angleou with Glenis Redmond, Poet-In-Residence at the Peace Center and State Theatre New Jersey, Kennedy Center Teaching Artist, founder of Peace Voices and Greenville Poetry Slam and author of Backbone, Under the Sun, and What the Hand knows.
"I was thinking about how Maya Angelou had helped me to rise and how I am still rising, because of her watering of words in my world. This is my 21st year as a teaching artist and a poet and I know that I would not have been able to do what I have done, if Maya Angelou had not come before me trailing wisps of glory for me to follow." – Glenis Redmond

    Where
    Woodruff [ Map ]
    Description
Come experience the time of your life- just listening to the sound of a voice. The Stone Soup Storytelling Festival is built upon the various versions of the old story of Stone Soup. The moral of the story is that by working together, with everyone contributing what they can, a greater good is achieved. Our Stone Soup storytellers come from all around the nation. They represent a variety of cultures and storytelling genres. The 2017 Stone Soup Storytelling headliners and featured tellers are: Noa Baum, Donna Washington, Rona Levanthal, Mike Lockett, Ingrid Nixon and Marji Pulliam. The Stone Soup Storytelling Festival begins on Friday by sharing our storytellers with the local schools. The public storytelling sessions start at noon on Friday and continue through Sunday. There will be fables, fairy tales, historical stories, liars and personal tales. Performers run the gamut from nationally acclaimed tellers to novice tellers and amateurs competing for their chance to shine.

    Description
Our Stone Soup storytellers come from all around the nation. They represent a variety of cultures and storytelling genres. The 2017 Stone Soup Storytelling headliners and featured tellers are: Noa Baum, Donna Washington, Rona Levanthal, Mike Lockett, Ingrid Nixon and Marji Pulliam. The Stone Soup Storytelling Festival begins on Friday by sharing our storytellers with the local schools. The public storytelling sessions start with a luncheon at noon on Friday. In the evening we share a Stone Soup supper, Fairy Tales, Fables and Legends and Ghost stories. There is storytelling all day on Saturday with New Voices, the Amateur Hour and Tell It All. We continue through Sunday with the service at First Presbyterian Church of Woodruff. There will be fables, fairy tales, Jack tales, historical stories, liars, ghost stories and personal tales. Performers run the gamut from nationally acclaimed tellers to New Voices, novice tellers and amateurs competing for their chance to shine. One of our top priorities is to try to preserve the intimate, small town feeling and atmosphere of traditional storytelling. The storytelling that occurred on the front porch on a Sunday afternoon, during your trip to town on a Saturday morning or under the shade tree at the backyard picnic. A welcome place for everyone to come.
A place to come and to experience "time well spent"- just listening to the sound of a voice and making new friends.
