Waterfalls Offer Escape From Heat

As temperatures rise, everyone is looking for a way to escape from the high heat. Whether you enjoy the challenges of a hike to view a waterfall from the top, a relaxing walk in the park to enjoy the cool mist, or a nice backdrop for a relaxing afternoon, our Upstate has something to offer.

For a challenging hike and breathtaking views, take a day trip to Falls Creek Falls. With steep sections, allow yourself time for the hike and pack plenty of water and snack to replenish throughout the day. The hike is three miles round trip to the falls from Jones Gap State Park. Along the hike, you will also enjoy the smaller falls of Falls Creek and Little Falls Creek.

For an easy walk and twice the views, spend some time at Twin Falls. While the larger fall garners much of the attention, the smaller fall slides down rocks and then meets with the larger twin near the bottom of the falls.

Issaqueena Falls is only a short walk down an easy path. These falls, which were named for the legend of a Native American woman, are located at the Stumphouse Tunnel Park. The tunnel, although it leads to nowhere, offers cool breezes. Issaqueena Falls has large stones for picnics and fantastic views.

Other popular falls throughout the Upstate include the Reedy River Falls in downtown Greenville, Yellow Branch Falls in Oconee County, and Gordons Mill Falls in Clinton.
